How often new medicines win an added benefit, how prices are settled, how many products leave the market — and why Germany still launches faster than almost anywhere in Europe. The key figures, with the data to download.
By March 2026, 1,201 AMNOG procedures had been run for 518 medicines. Across all of them, 52% found an added benefit — but for procedures started in 2023 to mid-2025 the share fell to 44%. Over 90% of prices are agreed rather than set by arbitration, and the negotiated prices save statutory insurers an estimated EUR 12 billion a year. Germany still makes 93% of new EU medicines available, after a median of just 56 days.

The decline since 2020 is usually attributed to stricter evidence requirements, more early approvals based on single-arm trials, and more re-assessments, which make up about 63% of recent procedures. The comparator and the trial design, fixed years before launch, explain most of the gap — see the AMNOG dossier: timeline and cost.

AMNOG sets prices after launch, so new medicines reach German patients fast. In EFPIA’s latest Patients W.A.I.T. survey (medicines approved 2021–2024):

|---|---|---|
| Rate of availability | 93% | 44% |
| Median time to availability | 56 days | 532 days |
| Mean time to availability | 158 days | 607 days |

The vfa (research-based pharmaceutical companies) and the GKV-Spitzenverband (statutory insurers) count procedures and outcomes on different databases; we show them separately and do not merge them. Outcome shares refer to the highest rating per procedure. Savings are industry estimates; 2025 and 2026 are forecasts. Figures are rounded; we update this page as new reports appear.
